Friday, 12th March - Day 6 - Ancianas

Unfortunately our plan to take the children out from the prison for the morning has had to be postponed because this is the International Week of the Woman and there are lots of activities at the prison to mark this event - hence the talent show and previously there had been a prison olympics and football matches [both women and men's teams].  Today was prize giving and a mass church service so everyone had to stay inside.  Instead, we went back to Las Ancianas [the old people's nursing home - I was told it was rude to call them old people but ancianas was much better!]  Much the same as yesterday except today we were given a whole sack full of sweet corn that we had to take the kernels from using our fingers to get every last one off the cob.  No knives allowed!  All the leaves of the cobs together with all other peelings are kept to give to the animals kept on the Chakra [farm] that provides the vegetables for the nursing home.

This afternoon we went off to the markets with  the driver, Alexandro,  from the house to buy sweets, bread, pens and paper to give to the people who live up in the mountains and who we are going to visit on Saturday.
